Goodbye, Cruise Media Group
I got laid off two weeks ago, today.
I’ve never been laid off before.
It’s not the most fun thing in the world, and the last couple of weeks have been difficult, emotional, and stressful.
What WAS fun was working with the team at Cruise Media Group.
I learned so much from each one of them.
Ryan, you gave me the opportunity to run point on some awesome projects that most people don’t get to do at their first industry job. I’m really proud of that work, and I’m sorry that you couldn’t find a way to keep me on.
Mike, you were a sage guide when it came to navigating the workforce, developing strategy for clients, and being a chill dude. I loved talking about work, the future, and coming up with ridiculous and fun video scripts with you.
Breanne, I know you moved on a couple of months ago, but working on contest ideas, getting to client meetings at EXACTLY the right time, and talking about cats with you was a blast.
Kayla, losing my work duet partner was devastating, and no one does a better Shakira than you.
Dylann, I’ve never seen anyone be more efficient and quick to find a shot on a shoot. But maybe it’s because you look like a model. Seriously, every picture that you’re in you just look like you accidentally posed for GQ.
Steph, you’re an amazing account manager. And you are an extremely understanding and helpful person. You pushed me to do better work, and be better at working with others.
Will, let’s hug soon. You give the best hugs. But you’re also a great animator and editor, and I love the drive you have to learn more things. Because of you, I now buy comic books on paper, instead of digitally.
I learned so much from all of you, and I’m glad I got the experience of working at a place like Cruise Media Group.
So what’s next?
Well, I’m applying for jobs.
But I’m also working on some things that I’m passionate about, and keeping my skills sharp. I’ve been working with a great group of friends on the Critical Hit. It’s a TV show. And a podcast. And a website. We have articles, opinion, news, and interviews about video games. Over the next week, we’ll be releasing a great deal of content. Gaming is a lifestyle. Come live it with us.
Speaking of video games, I’m doing play by play casting at BaseLAN 27 this weekend, as part of the Central Canada Comic Con. I’ll be on the stream for League of Legends on Saturday and Sunday, so stay tuned to Twitter or to the BaseLAN website to catch it.
I’ll be keeping busy, so stay tuned to posts on the blog every week, and take a look at my LinkedIn profile.
If I don’t get hired I’ll have no choice but to abandon all sanity and become a wheelbarrow rider.
