I Asked My Twitter Friends What Their Favourite Pick Me Ups For Happy Moments Are. Here’s What They Said.
(*being my Twitter friend doesn’t exclude you from the real friends category)
For the past few days my moods have been swinging back and forth. Not intensely, but just enough that every second day feels like an uphill both ways in the snow kind of day.
It isn’t the deep, crushing hole of depression, but something that I think that, with the right strategy, I can influence more and change. I can’t just watch cat videos and get rid of depression, but I believe that I can slowly change the shape of my moods.
Sometimes I just need the right catalyst.
You know what I really like about shoe shopping? You get to talk to a real person. Every time you need a new size, or a new style, that’s your chance to talk to someone about something new. Take the time and have a bit of a conversation about why shoes are cool next time you’re telling them your size. Because shoes are cool. I have 18 pairs. I might have a problem.
Revolving doors are super fun. You know how they tell you not to play in them because building owners are afraid you’ll fall and get spun around for days while being turned into a flat person as if you’re in a cartoon?
Play in them anyway.
Or at least sing obnoxiously while you go through them.
And always do an extra go around.
@MissAmberDawn knows that pandas and cats are awesome. If you’re ever feeling down, just look at some pandas or cats.
If you’ve never played Chrono Trigger, I suggest you stop reading this blog and start playing it immediately. It’s a sublime RPG experience for the Super Nintendo (which you can emulate), and you can also play it on iOS. It also has a sick soundtrack.
Tea is delicious, and something that @jsjMarks also suggested. Tea goes really well with reading a book. So thanks to @ZachSamborski for that! Escaping into a fictional world, or learning something about our own, is always grand.
As for yoga…I think I like yoga. I’ve done a moderate amount of “regular” yoga.
I tried hot yoga once with my friend Caroline.
Pros:
- increased flexibility
- everyone’s butt looks good in spandex, including your own
- you feel very relaxed afterward
- you can pretend you’re Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park talking about chaos as sweat runs off your/everyone’s body
Cons:
- it’s hot
- like, sweating buckets hot
- holy Hell is it hot
- you can’t see people’s nice looking butts because you’re about to pass out the whole time because
- for the love of everything it’s so effing hot
Doing something for someone else! It’s so simple. But it’s super effective. It feels good to not focus on yourself, and how you’re feeling, and what is worrying you. By helping someone out, even in a little way, you get a chance to look outward, and maybe make someone smile.
That’s pretty satisfying.
So if you’re ever feeling a little down, or even super down, maybe these things will help, if only to make you feel a little more comfortable, or a little less stuck in your own head.
Even for a moment.
You might even get to be someone else’s pick me up.
